A 1976 vintage Glenrothes from back when the distillery was home to only six stills - they currently have ten stills! This was filled into second-fill American oak hogshead #2677 in February 1976 and allowed to age until December 2015, when it was bottled with an outturn of just 238 bottles. A special bottle indeed from the Speyside single malt distillery.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, caramel, a pinch of earthy tobacco, stewed fruit notes developing sweetly in the background. On the palate, polished oak furniture and old leather, with continued hints of poached pear and cigar box. Flaky pastry and a very subtle hint of chilli chocolate on the finish.
