The Balvenie Distillery was founded in 1892 by William Grant in Dufftown, the heart of Scotland's Speyside region. It remains one of the few distilleries to maintain many traditional crafts on-site, including growing some of its own barley, operating a working malt floor, employing resident coopers, and maintaining its own coppersmiths. The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured first in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to European oak Oloroso sherry casks for a second maturation. This ""DoubleWood"" process creates greater depth and complexity by combining the sweetness of bourbon casks with the rich fruit and spice of sherry oak.

Tasting Notes

The nose offers aromas of honey, vanilla, dried fruit, cinnamon, and toasted nuts. The palate is smooth and rounded, revealing flavors of sweet malt, caramel, orange peel, raisins, baking spices, and gentle oak. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of sherry sweetness, honey, and soft spice.
