Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila
Olmeca Altos Blanco Tequila
Brand & History
Olmeca Altos was created in 2009 by two London bartenders, Henry Besant and Dre Masso, together with Master Distiller Jesús Hernández. It is produced in Arandas, in the Highlands of Jalisco (Los Altos), and owned by Pernod Ricard. The brand set out to make a tequila made by bartenders for bartenders: authentic, full of flavor and suited to both sipping and mixing.
Product
Olmeca Altos Blanco is made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the iron-rich red soils of the Jalisco Highlands. The agave hearts are slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens. Part of the cooked agave is crushed with a tahona, a large volcanic stone wheel, and the rest with a roller mill. The juices are fermented, double distilled and bottled unaged, keeping the bright, fresh character of Highland agave. The result is a crisp, vibrant tequila that works well in Margaritas and Palomas or on its own.
Tasting Notes
The nose shows sweet cooked agave, fresh lime, citrus peel and light herbal notes. The palate is smooth and lively, with flavors of sweet agave, lemon, green herbs, white pepper and a hint of earthiness. The finish is fresh and medium-long, with lingering citrus and gentle spice.

Trivia
“Altos” means “highs” in Spanish and refers to Los Altos de Jalisco, where the agave grows at around 2,000 meters above sea level. The higher altitude gives Highland agave a sweeter, fruitier and more floral character than agave from the Lowlands.
