Niepoort Tawny Port 10Y

36 JD
10 year old Tawnies are made up of several wines that have been aged for an average of 10 years. The Tawny color is imparted by the extensive maturing in tiny wooden casks. The major characteristics of an aged Tawny are scent complexity, freshness, a lasting aroma, and refinement. The Tawnies are matured for many years in small old oak casks (550l) in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. The craft of the Niepoort Master Blender, José Nogueira, is the balanced marriage of different qualities and eras.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of dried apricots and crystallized tangerine peel are perfectly harmonized with a nutty flavor in this tawny wine. The palate is dominated by dried fruits, with a fiery spirity finish. With a strong structure and a lengthy finish. This has wonderful fragrances of orange and lemon peel, as well as undertones of toffee, caramel, and honey. Full-bodied and delicious, with loads of sweet fruit and a long, lingering aftertaste.
Food Pairing
After dinner, old Tawny is a good match with cheeses and especially chocolate based desserts. It can also be drunk as an aperitif, served at room temperature or lightly chilled.
