About the producer:
Hacienda Grimon is a family-run estate in Rioja Alta operated by the Oliván family. They follow ecological, low-intervention practices—no herbicides or pesticides, composted manure, and minimal sulfites—creating wines rooted in traditional Rioja viticulture.
About the region:
Rioja Alta, a sub-zone of Rioja DOCa in northern Spain, offers cooler temperatures and higher elevation than Rioja Baja. Its climate and varied soils are ideal for classic, elegant Tempranillo-based wines that balance fruit and freshness.
About the grape blend:
This wine is made using four traditional Rioja varieties: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, plus a small percentage of Viura. It honors the family’s grandfather’s original field blends and employs whole-berry carbonic maceration alongside modern winemaking knowledge.
Style and tasting notes:
It displays a vivid garnet-red color. The nose is fresh and fruity, offering aromas of raspberries, blueberries, cherries, and wild berries. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, with silky, rounded tannins and persistent citrusy red fruit flavors, finishing with a bright, fruit-driven, and lively aftertaste.
Trivia:
The name means “as my grandfather would have done,” and it’s a tribute to him—vinified in open vats with whole grapes, exactly how he made it.
