Chateau Pouget which is one of the more obscure Classified growths in the Medoc and classified as one of ten 4éme Crus (Fourth Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The small 10 hectare, Left Bank vineyard of Chateau Pouget is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard has a terroir of sand and gravel soils in the Margaux appellation.
Château Pouget is the epitome of Margaux wine, a rarely-found combination of depth and finesse, delicious red and black fruit, grace and style of perfectly ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a classic Margaux, effortlessly combining finesse and substance. At Château Pouget particular attention is paid to the harvesting date, with the aim of picking grapes that have reached optimum ripeness. The grapes are sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery, and express all the finesse of this great terroir.
Tasting Notes
Ruby with a textured plummy character. The nose is aromatic and full of blackberries, ripe red fruit - rich even. A classic Margaux palate with emphasis on bright red fruit, earth and tobacco.
Food Pairing
Classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes. Pouget is a perfect match with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms and pasta as well as cheese.
