Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2020

About the producer:
Château Mouton Rothschild is a legendary First Growth estate in Pauillac, Bordeaux, belonging to the Rothschild family since 1853. Notably elevated to First Growth status in 1973, it’s famed for its annual artist-designed labels and unwavering commitment to quality.

About the region:
Pauillac, in the Médoc sub-region of Bordeaux, is celebrated for its gravel-rich soils and optimal microclimate. It’s home to three of the original 1855 First Growths and is synonymous with structured, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines

About the grape blend:
The 2020 grand vin is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. This classic Left Bank blend reflects the estate’s signature style.

Style and tasting notes:
Deep purple-black in color, the wine opens with subtle notes of raspberries and blackberries. With aeration, a core of blackcurrant pastilles, rose oil, licorice, cardamom, cedar chest, black truffle, and crushed rock unfolds. The palate is medium to full-bodied, tightly structured with layers of black and red fruit, framed by firm, multi-grained tannins and a mineral-driven backbone. It finishes long, fragrant, and refined, showcasing Mouton’s elegance and restraint .

Trivia:
This was the first vintage overseen by technical director Jean‑Emmanuel Danjoy, and the 2020 label was designed by artist Peter Doig. The wine has been universally acclaimed—earning 99–100 points from James Suckling, 97–99 points from Wine Advocate, and 98 points from Decanter
