"Château des Jacques Syrah Les Jacques 2021
About the producer: Château des Jacques, owned by Maison Louis Jadot since 1996, is one of the most respected estates in Beaujolais. Known for introducing Burgundian winemaking techniques such as barrel aging and long maceration, the château crafts wines with greater structure and complexity than typically associated with the region.
About the region: Beaujolais is located south of Burgundy, between Lyon and Mâcon. While Gamay is the hallmark grape, the region’s diverse soils and microclimates also allow other varieties like Syrah to thrive, particularly in warmer, well-exposed sites that bring out the grape’s depth and spice.
About the grape variety: Syrah, widely planted in the northern Rhône, shows a different expression in Beaujolais. It retains its signature dark fruit and peppery spice while being slightly softer and more approachable, reflecting the lighter touch of Beaujolais terroir.
Style and tasting note: Château des Jacques Syrah Les Jacques 2021 offers aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and plum, accented by black pepper, violet, and subtle smoky notes. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and fresh acidity, leading to a smooth yet structured finish. A refined and elegant take on Syrah with a Burgundian sensibility.
Trivia: Syrah is not traditionally associated with Beaujolais, making this cuvée a rare and distinctive expression. The wine’s name “Les Jacques” pays tribute to Louis Jadot’s founder, Louis-Henry Denis Jadot, and the estate’s role in bridging the styles of Burgundy and Beaujolais."
