Campotino Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020
It was 1973 when the Mazzocchetti cousins created Tenuta del Priore, named after nonno Vincenzo, their grandfather, who locals used to call “the Prior” with a sense of religious respect. The three young men believed with deep faith in the production potential of Pescara hills, in the goodness of those grapes that grew and ripened with the blessing of a lush nature.
The area known as “Col del Mondo” is located within the municipality of Collecorvino, a small town near Pescara. The area surrounding the farm is a characteristic backdrop of rolling hills that stretch from the Apennines to the Adriatic coast.
Montepulciano is a grape at its best in Abruzzo in the region of Umbria in Italy! Globally appreciated for its soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are best consumed in their youth and with food.
Tasting Notes
Pretty violet edged purple/ink with a kernel of raspberry/dark cherry, even Pinot-esque. On the nose, the wine is delicate violet scented, pepper too. The strong vintage means an extra gear of ripeness and also of focus compared to the softer, lighter 2018. The wine is medium bodied, juicy, bright, blueberry, the supplest of fruit tannins, cool but pointed fruit, along with a lovely sense of ease and great drinkability.
Food Pairing
Italian hearty food such as Pasta Bolognese and Lasagna.
