Gramona Argent Blanc Brut Corpinnnat 2016
Suggested Food Pairings:
Gramona’s history is long and storied, and the property has been a quality reference point in the zone for decades. As far back as 1816 a member of the family has been making wine in Penedes. Today, Gramona is one of the few remaining family-owned estates in the region, with many having been bought by large companies. Gramona is located in the Penedes region of Spain just 45 minutes from Barcelona along Spain's Mediterranean coast. The Climate in Penedes is mild and warm, benefiting mostly from a Mediterranean influence. However, as the differences in elevation are quite dramatic (with some vines at over 700 meters), there are many microclimates in the zone.
The exquisite Gramona Argent is a blend of 80% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Noir. It is produced from grapevines, 25 years old on average, planted in Mas Escorpí, a estate with calcareous and rocky soils located on the foothills of the Montserrat mountains, one of the coolest areas in the Penedès region.
This Spanish sparkling wine was meticulously harvested and vinified. Once in the cellar, the grapes were gently crushed, after which only a 35% of the wine must was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. After that, the wine completes secondary fermentation in the bottle, and is aged for a minimum of 48 months before its release.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow with golden highlights. On the nose, Elegance and subtlety, taking the form of fruit – pears, golden apples and a touch of citrus, lemon peel, white flowers, fennel, and very fine notes of toasted almonds. On the palate, fresh on entry, nice volume, with fine, and creamy bubbles. Dry finish with good acidity. On the aftertaste, we find fruit and nutty aromas.
