Col d’Orcia means the hill overlooking the Orcia River. The Orcia River marks the South West border of the Brunello di Montalcino territory and the name of the farm is intrinsically linked to the physical location were the vineyards are planted. It is the mission of Col d’Orcia to produce the best possible wines that the exceptional combination of soil and climate of this part of Montalcino can achieve. Since 2010 the whole estate is run following exclusively organic agricultural practices.

Brunello Nastagio is the result of the long experience accumulated by Col d'Orcia in the development and management of the Sangiovese vineyard. Nastagio is also the result of the many research chapters conducted over more than twenty years by Col d’Orcia with the University of Florence. The wine is aged in small barrels in the first year, and aged in large barrels in the second and third years. The result of the year aging in small barrels contributes towards obtaining a full, persistent and soft wine. In the second and third years of aging in the large barrels, the wine reaches the taste-aroma balance and produces fine and elegant tertiary elements, achieving an increase in the complexity and the exaltation of the typical aromas of Sangiovese.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant ruby red color with violet hues. The intense and complex aromas lead back to small red ripe fruits and plum jam followed by toasted and vanilla notes. Excellent structure, full bodied and balanced on the palate. The enveloping tannic texture leads to a fruity pleasant, lasting aftertaste.

Food Pairing

Pairs well with tomato based pastas, lamb chops, beef stew, Fiorentina, duck, grilled vegetables, mature cheeses such as Pecorino, Parmigiano, Asiago, Provolone.
