About the producer:
Wildmakers is a boutique Chilean producer partnering with small growers in Maule, emphasizing natural, low-intervention wines. Pais de Comavida is part of their range, highlighting indigenous País grapes from the Fundo Comavida estate.
About the region:
The Maule Valley in central Chile is known for its storied old-vine País vineyards and granite-based soils. At about 350–400 m elevation, the terroir yields fruit of concentrated flavor and balanced structure, even in warm vintages.
About the grape variety:
Predominantly País (75%), an ancient Chilean variety, blended with 25% Garnacha Tinta. País offers bright red fruit and rustic charm, while Garnacha contributes freshness, acidity, and depth.
Style and tasting notes:
Bright ruby in color, with pronounced aromas of raspberries, cherries, and savory herbs. On the palate it is medium-bodied, juicy, and layered with vibrant red fruit, subtle earthiness, and a firm, gripping finish. Despite its 14.5% alcohol, the wine remains balanced and textured, avoiding any heaviness.
Trivia:
This wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged 10 months in clay amphorae—part of Wildmakers’ commitment to traditional, minimal-intervention techniques.
