Baglio Antico Catarratto Terre Siciliane 2021

About the producer:
Baglio Antico is part of the Storica Cantine Rallo cooperative in western Sicily, managed by the Rallo family since 1860. Known for crafting authentic, organic wines, they embrace minimal intervention—no filtration, low sulfites—and emphasize wines that are fresh, vibrant, and true to their terroir.

About the region:
This wine comes from the Terre Siciliane IGT area in southwestern Sicily, around Salemi, at approximately 350 m altitude. The region features warm summers and cool nights, thriving in its varied soils and Mediterranean climate.

About the grape variety:
Made from 100% Catarratto Bianco, one of Sicily’s most widely planted indigenous white grapes. Here, it’s treated as an “orange” wine—with skin maceration and minimal sulphur—to highlight deep aromatic and textural complexity.

Style and tasting notes:
The 2021 Catarratto shows a straw‑yellow color and delivers lively aromas of lemon, orange zest, orange blossom, and jasmine. On the palate it is medium-bodied, dry, and crisp, with savory, mineral-rich flavors and a refined almond finish. With subtle tannins from its three-day skin maceration, this wine is both textured and refreshing.

Trivia:

This wine is unfined, unfiltered, and bottled with virtually no sulfur to preserve its natural expression.

It spends three days on its skins, creating an approachable introduction to orange wine.
