La Chapelle d'Ausone Saint Emillion Grand Cru 2014

Suggested Food Pairings:

Château Ausone is a Right Bank Bordeaux wine from Saint-Émilion appellation, one of only four wines along with Château Angélus, Château Cheval Blanc and Château Pavie to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine. Chapelle d'Ausone is its second wine.
The success of the wine produced at Ausone is attributed to a combination of exposure and the soil, a mixture of sand and clay on limestone, unique to the district. The vineyard is 7 hectares arranged with the grape varieties of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot. Due to the small scale of the vineyards, picking may be done at any optimal moment, usually in two afternoons.
Tasting Notes
There is plenty of fresh red cherry, crushed strawberry and loganberry fruit to savor, an undercurrent and limestone that percolates through. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very refined and focused with superb tension and nuance. This just glides across the mouth, blessed with a very persistent finish.
