La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou Cuvee Colbert 2015

Suggested Food Pairings:

Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful, large stones found in its unique wine-growing terroir. This exceptional ecosystem produces fine, elegant, tasty wines with a long finish - in short, archetypical Saint-Julien wines. Cuvée Colbert is a special rendition of Ducru Beaucaillou’s La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou, aged exclusively in a large 45-hectolitre oak foudre.
Tasting Notes
The 2015 La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou Cuvée Colbert presents a ripe, dark fruit profile on the nose that unfurls with aeration – expressive and profound with dark cherry, blueberry and underlying dark chocolate notes. On the palate, the wine is surprisingly approachable with very silky and delicate tannins, while retaining the richness, depth and concentration of the 2015 vintage. The backbone of acidity lifts the finish to give a very well balanced wine. Clearly just reaching its drinking window, it will benefit from another year or two of cellaring to show its full potential. It is one of those young Clarets that will be hard to resist.
